Before you pour on another “Jack” on your glass, think again. Are you drinking alcohol responsibly? How sure are you that you know everything there is to know about alcohol and alcohol addiction? Alcohol can be very addictive. It takes enough knowledge to avoid falling into the “attractive trap” of alcohol addiction. Drinking alcohol once in a while is not bad. What makes alcohol bad is when you take it without control. These facts about alcohol and alcohol addiction will give you enough shield against the alcohol addiction attack: 1. Alcohol addiction is treatable. If you think you or someone you know has already fallen prey to alcohol addiction, don’t panic. There are various rehabilitation centres that cater to people with alcohol problem. These rehabilitation centres deal with alcohol addiction problem, its root cause and the varying cases of patients. 2. There are some doubts regarding the effectiveness of alcohol treatments. Alcohol addiction treatments offered by rehab centres are effective. However, it takes commitment and dedication on the patient’s part for the treatments to really take effect and have long term results. 3. One glass of beer can lead to a lifetime of alcohol bond. When drinking, always be in control and always drink in moderation. 4. Alcohol addiction knows no age, gender or nationality. Alcohol addiction is a worldwide menace and the world – literally – is battling against alcohol addiction. 5. Alcohol addiction has symptoms. You will know if a person is already addicted to alcohol if he keeps on drinking no matter how many times he has been warned about the dangers of alcohol intake, if he drinks alcohol first thing in the morning (forget the morning tea or coffee, I’ll have jacks on rocks please!) and if he seems to ignore your reminders about his alcohol problems. 6. An alcoholic can stop taking alcohol permanently if he gets the help and support he needs as early as possible. 7. The safe level of drinking is at least 2 drinks per day for men. Well, this is dependent on the age of the drinker. But in most cases, 2 drinks a day is moderate. 8. It is not safe to drink alcohol if you are pregnant, ill, or plan to drive after. 9. The effect of alcohol differs between men and women. Women become more helpless when under the influence of alcohol. They easily get drunk compared to men – in general. This has something to do with the differences in the body and weight of men and women. 10. Don’t be too overwhelmed with the studies that show how alcohol can be good for your heart. This is only true to moderate drinkers. Studies show that moderate drinkers are less likely to develop heart disease compared to non-drinkers and heavy-drinkers.
